The Village Painters is a thriving art "salon" group
that dates back to 1949. Bibby Smith is a founding member and continues as a member today.
The group's name comes from an early studio above Gilchrist Drug Store in Mountain Brook Village,
Birmingham, Alabama. Later, the artists painted for a long time at Pepper Place and now
work together at their spacious light-filled studio in Cahaba Heights Village in Vestavia, Alabama. The group gathers in studio to paint together, discuss and critique works and
celebrate life every Tuesday, but some artists can be found at work in the
Village Painter's Studio on any given day.
These talented, highly trained artists have won many awards and their paintings are in numerous private and public collections. Group exhibitions include Birmingham Southern College, Samford College, Birmingham Public Library, Little House, Lyda Rose, Unitarian Universalist Church. Members also exhibit extensively as individual artists.
